Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA)
Another Alternative For Chronic Pain
Southgate Surgery Center offers Manipulation Under Anesthesia to their patients, otherwise known as MUA. This procedure has been used by the osteopathic profession for over 60 years and is the treatment of choice when all other methods of care have failed. It is a non-invasive treatment and offered for chronic conditions including neck pain, back pain, muscle spasm, shortened muscles, fibrous adhesions and long-term pain syndromes.
MUA is considered safe, is performed in a hospital or surgery center and is covered by most insurance. It is used to treat pain that arises from the neck, mid back, lower back, as well as the sacroiliac and pelvis regions. By lightly anesthetizing a patient, once painful adjustments and movements are accomplished quickly and pain free, helping to greatly improve or even restore range of motion. It can only be performed by licensed physicians who are certified in the procedure. The team consists of an anesthesiologist, a primary physician/chiropractor and a first assistant who must be a physician/chiropractor and who has also been certified to perform Manipulation Under Anesthesia.
Southgate Surgery Center takes pride in the fact that our doctors are not only certified in MUA by accredited programs but also because we offer a professional alternative for those that are not responding to traditional care for chronic pain.
