“Southgate Surgery Center Holds “Survivor” Theme Open House”

In honor of National ASC Open House Day, Southgate Surgery Center held a Survivor themed open house, August, 14th with screenings for the public.  Michael Skupin from Survivor's Season 2 was the guest speaker for the event and then went around to the screening booths to mingle with the guests.  He tailored his presentation which included video from when he was on Survivor to also incorporate correlations between what we were watching on the video to the importance of having regular testing for the detection/prevention of disease. The ASC was decorated accordingly including a kayak, palm trees and a tiki hut front desk.  The staff wore matching T-shirts with a Survivor-like logo that said Outwit, Outlast, Outlive Disease With Early Detection.  Screenings that were available free of charge to the public included glaucoma, blood pressure, blood sugar, colon cancer, hemoglobin, varicose vein, cholesterol, retina, breast, weight, foot and eyeglass cleaning and repair.  A booth was set up for the public to get temporary tattoos and have wax hands made.  Originally the thought was that this would be a great benefit for the kids yet the adults seem to have as much if not more fun getting tattos and having wax hands made than the kids.  Comments we received while attendees enjoyed appetizers, door prizes and giveaways were that they had a lot of fun and that these type of events should be available more often.
